October 2009: Talk to the Press celebrates selling its 300th storyPress agency Talk to the Press is pleased to announce it has sold its 300th story to the media.
Sarah Mitchard, a 30 year old mum of three, contacted the agency because she wanted to warn people about the risks of plastic surgery. She developed complications after having a tummy tuck in 2006 and was forced to endure three operations to correct the problem. She has been left scarred for life by the procedure.
The agency sold her story to Now, Woman and Real People. The article in Real People – to be published in the next few weeks – is the 300th story Talk to the Press has sold to the media.
Sarah says: “I was a bit nervous about selling my story but I’m so glad I did it. It allowed me to get my story out there, something I wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise.
“Natasha was lovely and I loved having my photo shoot done. I had my make-up done professionally and I felt really special. I hadn’t felt like that in a long while.” Natasha Courtenay-Smith, director of Talk to the Press, says: “I’m delighted that we were able to help Sarah tell the world about her horrific ordeal. Even after 300 stories, helping people share their experiences with a wider audience still feels wonderful.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to tell their real life story to the world and take great pride in ensuring our clients get the best deal possible.”
Founded in January 2008, Talk to the Press specialises in helping ordinary people sell their real-life stories to the world in newspapers, magazines and on TV. The Talk to the Press team of writers advises people on whether they have a story which may be of interest to the national media, helping them decide which publications to aim for and managing all their contracts and fees accordingly.
Talk to the Press' past clients include:
· June Redman, who fell pregnant after being raped at 14 and was forced to give up her baby son for adoption. After 40 years apart, charity After Adoption helped reunite her with her son. June shared her inspirational story with the Daily Mail and Woman’s Own.
· Katie Hill, the teenager who became the youngest person in the UK to have a gastric band fitted when she was 14. The agency helped her sell her stor ot the Sunday Mirror, Woman’s Own and New. She also went on to appear on Five News and GMTV.
· Kara Hoyte, who was savagely attacked by her ex-boyfriend and found herself in the centre of a media storm when her testimony helped send him to jail for both his attack on her and the murder of his former girlfriend, a crime for which he had already been acquitted. Kara and her mother approached Talk to the Press to help them handle the media interest. As a result, Kara’s story appeared in the Sunday Mirror, Closer and Glamour magazines.
Talk to the Press clients have appeared in almost every women’s magazine in the country. The agency has also placed real-life stories in magazines in Australia, Greece and Belgium.
