Have you ever wondered why you should use a press agency rather than going direct to a publication? Selling your story should be an easy and stress-free process, so by using Talk to the Press, you can ensure you enjoy your media journey – whatever your aims may be.
First of all, our service is free to you. We are paid by publications for writing your story to the style of the magazine or newspaper. National publications rely on press agencies to supply around 80% of their content. You are paid a separate fee for your story, and you keep 100% of it.
We are able to place your story with multiple publications, which is trickier than it sounds (read more below). And, because we’re media experts who supply stories to every major publication, we know how much your story is worth. All of our staff are NCTJ trained (National Council for the training for Journalists) and will write high quality accurate copy, so you will be pleased with the story you see in print.
If you’re wondering if you have a story and want to speak to a professional, friendly journalist – you’ve come to the right place.
We’re a national press agency so people contact us with their stories. We do not door knock people, or hassle them – we represent people who have a story to sell or who have fallen into the media spotlight – through no fault of their own.
After we’ve spoken to you, we will let you know if we can take on your story. We will have a brief chat to get the bare bones of your story and then write up a synopsis – a summary of your story.
Then, we’ll ask you to email all of the supporting documents and pictures. At this point, we will email you a confidentiality agreement, so you know everything is completely confidential until we’ve secured you an offer you’re happy with.
Once we have everything ready to go, we will send it over to our contacts inhouse on the papers and magazines (commissioning editors).
Generally, we will place it with a national newspaper first and then try and secure you two magazine deals as well as daytime TV such as This Morning and Good Morning Britain. Certain publications won’t follow others, so to maximize your income, your story must be sold in a certain order. If you sell your story to the wrong publication first, nobody else will want to print your story.
If the paper like it they will raise it in conference and then if their editor likes it they will make a firm offer. The fee will depend on how big the story appears and which publication it goes to. But we will know if the offer reflects the value of your story.
Then, if you’re happy to go ahead will set up a professional photoshoot and do a proper sit down interview. Afterwards, we will we file the article over to the publication and wait for a date for it to run.
If you prefer, we can give you a call and read back the copy before submission (upon request, so just ask).
If stories are topical they will go in straightaway, but if they’re not, they can get held for a few weeks. But we will keep you posted every step of the way.
So, if you’re considering selling your story, give us a call on 0207 549 5406 or fill out the form on this page. We will get back to you ASAP and let you know if it’s something we can help with.
Please do not send your story to any other journalists, agencies or publications directly as this may scupper any exclusive deal we secure for you. We look forward to hearing from you and helping you get your story out there.
