How to bring an abuser to justice through the national press

When news broke that black cab rapist John Worboys may be released from prison, his victims were unanimously outraged.

One of Worboys’ victims reached out to Talk to the Press by filling out  a story form on our website to get her voice heard.

Within 24 hours Deputy Editor Courtney Greatrex telephoned her and arranged a face-to-face meeting to discuss her shocking story [interviews can also be over the phone if you prefer].

The victim, whose name we have changed to protect her identity, told how she fell victim to the vile rapist after enjoying a couple of drinks with colleagues in February 2008.

She was horrified after reading the news that Worboys may be released from prison and feared for her own safety.

Courtney got down all of the details about what happened that night, and how it had impacted her life and approached The Sun newspaper who were immediately fully behind the story.

The paper sent a reporter and photographer to visit the victim at her home later that day.

We negotiated a substantial fee for the woman and the Sun on Sunday broke the story.

Later that week Good Morning Britain contacted Courtney, keen to speak to the victim, and have a live on-air chat.

Courtney negotiated her appearance and arranged for all their travel to be covered as well as securing a good fee for her time.

The victim had concerns about her identity being revealed, Courtney was able to reassure her that her voice and appearance would be obscured during the interview.

Courtney also secured a magazine deal for a substantial fee and continued to help secure follow-ups in relation to the story.

Most noteworthy in this case, was by going with Talk to the Press, the victim was able to ensure that she remained in control of the story. More importantly we ensured her identity remained protected throughout the process.
