When we heard about the little girl who lives in a colourless world, our hearts broke. Eight-year-old Tyla Rich from North Wales was born with Achromatopsia – a rare inherited condition which means she suffers colourblindness, loss of vision and an inability to fully control her eye movement.
For Tyla, who can only see up to three metres in front of her and must wear specially designed red-tinted glasses to filter out the harmful sunlight, the world looks very much like an old black and white movie and she sees the things simply in shades of grey. Mum Kara, 35, is amazed by how Tyla copes and has designed a new website in the hope of finding people with the same condition for her to talk to.
She says: “It must be very isolating being the only one trapped in a colourless world, I’d love for her to be able to see the blue sky but I’ve had to come to terms with the fact she never will. Despite everything Tyla is always full of smiles and I’m incredibly proud of her.”
